Internships/Externships
The Criminal Law Practice Center offers a variety of semester long legal externships to provide students with real-world experience while attending law school.
Students may enroll in the Prosecutor/Public Defender Externship. Most students are placed in either the Office of the Orange County District Attorney or the Office of the Orange County Public Defender, but placements in other counties are also possible. Externs work an average of hours 12-15 hours per week, and meet for class once a week, with the externship director. Externship opportunities, including judicial externships and special externships for part-time students, are also available. Externs who have already taken evidence are eligible to apply for a student practice certificate from the California Bar, and many externs have had the opportunity to represent clients in the courtroom, under the direction of their externship supervisor.
