Western State College of Law Announces 92% Pass Rate for Graduates Taking California Bar Exam for the First Time

Western State College of Law at Argosy University, the oldest law school in Orange County, California, is pleased to announce that 92% percent of its graduates taking the State Bar of California's Committee of Bar Examiners exam for the first time in February of 2012 have passed, placing Western State College of Law first among the twenty California law schools who are American Bar Association (ABA) accredited.

Students representing The Students Organizations at the College of Law were invited to a Leadership Pipeline mixer hosted by Western State alumna, Solange Ritchie, Esq.

Western State University College of Law entered two teams in the California State Bar's Student Environmental Negotiation Competition held at UCLA on Saturday, March 23rd. In all, 26 teams from 16 California law schools participated, including all of the UC Schools.

Four years have passed since Bear Sterns collapsed, and the economy is still reeling from the aftermath of the events that followed. The effectiveness of policy decisions made and not made - then and now -loom powerfully in the upcoming election cycle.

On January 31, 2012, Western State deans, faculty, and staff welcomed the Board of the Orange County Legal Education Foundation and recipients of the Scott McCune memorial scholarship from the past twenty two years, to honor benefactor Mr. William McCune and family, for their generous support of Western State student scholarships.

Western State Announces California Bar Exam Results for Graduates

Western State, the oldest law school in Orange County, California, is pleased to announce that 77% percent of its graduates taking the State Bar of California's Committee of Bar Examiners exam for July 2010 have passed, placing tenth among the twenty California law schools who were ABA-approved in July.

Western State University College of Law is proud to announce that 77 percent of first-time test takers passed the July 2011 California Bar exam.

Western State Alumnus Named District Attorney for City of San Francisco

Western State alumnus George Gascón has been named District Attorney for the city of San Francisco. Gascón, former police chief of the city was appointed to fulfill the unexpired term of Kamala Harris, who recently vacated the office to become California's Attorney General.

Western State Alumnus Named Immigration Judge for Los Angeles Immigration Court

Western State alumnus Robert E. Coughlon has been named as an Immigration Judge for the Los Angeles Immigration Court.

Their presentation, entitled Developing Students Identities as Legal Apprentices, focuses on how law students should begin to think of themselves as practicing attorneys, beginning from their first year of law school. By introducing students to real lawyers and judges, through various interactions both on campus and in the courtroom, students develop a practice-ready approach to law school, and are better equipped to face the challenges of a career in the law.

New Report Sheds Light on Secretive Deportation Practices; Reveals Evidence of Systemic Violations of Basic Rights for Immigrants in Deportation Proceedings.

“Deportation Without Due Process,” a groundbreaking report, analyzes thousands of never-before-released government documents revealing evidence of widespread misuse of the “stipulated order of removal” program. The lead author of the report is Western State Professor Jennifer Lee Koh, who co-authored with Stanford Law School professor Jayashri Srikantiah and National Immigration Law Center (NILC) attorney Karen Tumlin.

Jennifer Lee Koh, assistant professor of law and director of the Western State Immigration Clinic, will present her article, "The Whole Better than the Sum: A Case for the Categorical Approach to Determining the Immigration Consequences of Crime," at the Third Annual Southwest Criminal Law Conference on September 16-17.

Professor Williams has extensive practical and teaching experience. Prior to teaching, Professor Williams worked in Washington D.C. at the Lawyers Alliance For World Security, a non-profit organization designed to stop the spread of nuclear weapons worldwide. He worked at Cravath Swaine and Moore in New York, and was a senior associate in the civil litigation department at Luce Forward Hamilton & Scripps in San Diego, CA.

Recent graduate Mallory Miller was presented with the Orange County Women Lawyers 2011 Bar Stipend Award at the Organization’s 35th Anniversary Dinner on May 19th, at the Newport Beach Marriott.

Western State, the oldest law school in Orange County, California, announced today that it has received full accreditation approval by the American Bar Association (ABA).

William E. Adams, Jr. Begins Tenure as New Dean of Western State

Western State welcomes William E. Adams, Jr. as dean of the school today. Adams begins his new position, succeeding Maryann Jones, who retired after 19 years of service at Western State University.
