Jennifer Lee Koh, assistant professor of law and director of the Western State Immigration Clinic, will present at the Third Annual Southwest Criminal Law Conference on September 16-17.

The conference is hosted by UC Irvine School of Law and Chapman Law School, and will feature works-in-progress presented by criminal law faculty from the region.  Professor Koh's article will appear in the Winter 2012 edition of the Georgetown Immigration Law Journal, and argues that the categorical approach -- the methodology used by the federal courts and immigration agency to determine whether a criminal conviction triggers adverse immigration consequences -- has the potential to act as a de facto substitute for substantive and procedural rights to the noncitizen that are otherwise lacking under our current immigration law framework.  Professor Jennifer Chacon from UC Irvine will serve as a commentator on Professor Koh's article.
