Last weekend, a team from Western State College of Law consisting of Jennifer Pyka and Luz Ayala, coached by Professor Cheyanna Jaffke, competed in the 2017 UC Davis Asylum & Refugee Law National Moot Court Competition.
As the team advanced to the quarterfinals as Ms. Ayala was repeatedly told by the judges that she was well composed when it came to questioning and that they appreciated her calm demeanor. Additionally, one judge told Ms. Pyka’s that he never would have thought of her answer and was very impressed with it and her “quick thinking.”
Notably, the team they were up against in the quarterfinals is the team that ended up winning the competition. The Western State College of Law team received the Best Brief Award which is based solely on the students’ efforts. It is a great testament to their hard work and dedication.
