Are there any course requirements for the Entrepreneurship Clinic?

Yes. Students must have taken the following three classes prior to taking the WSCLEC: Contracts I, Contracts II, and Business Associations. Students must also be in good academic standing. To confirm good standing, students must provide a copy of their transcript. Submission of your WSCLEC Application constitutes your express permission for the WSCL Registrar to release your transcript to the WSCLEC Director.

Do I have to fill out an application to take the WSCLEC?

Yes. You must fill out an application, and be accepted into the WSCLEC, to enroll in the Clinic. After receiving your application, you will be scheduled for an interview with the WSCLEC Director. You will be notified via email if you are accepted into the WSCLEC.

I’m an evening/part-time student. Can I still take the Clinic?

Yes. Evening/part-time students may be admitted to the WSCLEC. However, be aware that the classroom seminar component of the WSCLEC will be held during daytime hours. If you are an evening or part-time student, please speak with the WSCLEC Director before applying.

I don’t have any prior experience with business. Can I still take the WSCLEC?

Yes. Prior experience with business is preferred but not required.

Who will the client be and where will the come from?

Initially, the clients will be start up and small businesses referred to the clinic by Westcliff University’s business incubator program and the WSCLEC Director will have discretion on which clients are accepted. The goal is to include a cross-section of clients with varying needs so that clinic students will have the opportunity to engage on a variety matters.

Do I have to speak a language other than English?

No. The WSCLEC may have interpreters and translators available if needed while representing a client.

What is the difference between the WSCLEC and the Business Law Practice and Real Estate Law Practice certificates?

The Business Law Practice and Real Estate Law Practice certificates are courses of study in which students succeed in a combination of required courses, elective courses, and experiential learning to receive a certificate in either business law practice or real estate law practice upon graduation from Western State College of Law. The WSCLEC is a course that counts as an elective for the Business Law Practice Certificate.

Western State College of Law’s 11,000+ alumni are well represented across public and private sector legal practice areas, including 150 California judges and about 15% of Orange County’s Deputy Public Defenders and District Attorneys.
